Abstract Objective: To determine cerebral ischemia - reperfusion of the brain tissue at different points in time and measure the MPO activity and studying the inflammatory response and cerebral ischemia - reperfusion injury relationship.

Methods: The focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion model was made by thread embolism of the MCA. We examined the MPO activity, the cerebral infarction volume and the light microscope for pathological changes in the brain tissue, to determine if there were any signs of ischemia during a 3 hour time period.

Results: The ischemia had an increase in MPO activity in the brain tissue and increased neutral granular cell infiltration, during a time period of between 48 and 72 hours after reperfusion. With the prolonging of ischemia-reperfusion time, there was an increase in damage from cerebral infarction and increased neuronal degeneration.

Conclusion: The focal ischemic brain tissue MPO activity and ischemia - reperfusion injury has a certain relationship between the inflammation response and is an important factor in the damaging of brain tissue.
