Witnessing a miracle: Living with familial myotonic dystrophy, I gained improved swallowing much better, able to communicate normally and savor delicious food freely after 2nd round treatment in WMC!
Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat, a 59-year-old gentleman from the United States, was diagnosed with familial myotonic dystrophy four years ago. Plagued by this genetic disorder, he gradually suffered from slurred speech, deteriorating swallowing function, progressive limb muscle weakness, and severe hunchback caused by back myotonia. Unable to work normally or take care of himself, he and his entire family were deeply distressed.
With active efforts from Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat and his family, he received two rounds of Dr. Wu’s original, globally exclusive dual-stem cell combined with CAST therapy at Wu Medical Center in Beijing, China, between 2024 and 2026.
Before his first admission in 2024, Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat presented with progressive dysphagia, unclear articulation, varying degrees of generalized muscle atrophy, poor cardiopulmonary function, easy fatigue, breathing difficulties, frequent pain in both knees and lower back, and a history of liver transplantation one and a half years prior.
Drawing on over 30 years of rich clinical expertise and proven practical experience in stem cell treatment for myotonic dystrophy, Dr. Wu customized a personalized treatment plan featuring dual-stem cell therapy and CAST intervention for Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat. Supported by seamless coordination from his professional medical team, the patient received safe and effective comprehensive treatment covering biological, chemical and physical interventions.
During his hospitalization, Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat witnessed steady and tangible improvements in his physical condition day by day.
Before treatment: His speech was indistinct with a weak voice.
After treatment: His pronunciation became clearer and his voice grew stronger.
Before treatment: Significant atrophy of the masseter and temporal muscles led to sunken facial features.
After treatment: The volume of his masticatory muscles increased notably, and the hollowing of his cheeks was greatly relieved.
Before treatment: He was unable to chew, swallow or drink water independently.
After treatment: He gradually regained the ability to drink water (50 to 70 milliliters per day), as well as beverages such as juice, milk and cola. He could safely swallow soft, easy-to-chew foods including custard, bread and fresh fruits.
Before treatment: Respiratory rate reached 27 breaths per minute with blood oxygen saturation at 89%-90%.
After treatment: His resting respiratory rate dropped to 20 breaths per minute, and his blood oxygen saturation rose steadily to 95%.
Before treatment: Weak heart sounds with a heart rate of 50-55 beats per minute.
After treatment: Heart sound quality improved, with a stable resting heart rate of 55-65 beats per minute and 70-80 beats per minute during mild activities.
Before treatment: He struggled to sit up from a lying position, stand up from a seated position, and could not stand on one leg at all.
After treatment: He can now stand up quickly and independently from a chair, and maintain single-leg standing for approximately 5 seconds.
Before treatment: He suffered from severe fatigue after minor activities.
After treatment: He is able to go out for outdoor activities for 2 hours, with a remarkable increase in the distance he can walk unassisted.
Before treatment: He was extremely physically frail.
After treatment: His energy, physical stamina and exercise endurance have been significantly enhanced.
Before treatment: Persistent knee, lower back and dorsal pain caused by the disease plagued him constantly.
After treatment: Pain in his knees, lower back and dorsal area was greatly alleviated.
Overjoyed by the remarkable recovery, Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat’s disease progression was successfully halted. After returning home, he resumed a normal life and work with great ease. The satisfying outcomes of his first treatment motivated him and his family to prepare actively for a second course of therapy at Wu Medical Center.
In April 2026, Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat and his family returned to Wu Medical Center for his second treatment. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Dr. Wu’s medical team and the patient’s full cooperation, further outstanding improvements were achieved:
His motor functions were greatly enhanced, allowing him to stay outdoors for 4 hours and walk independently.
His verbal expression ability improved dramatically; he can now speak loudly and communicate with others with clear articulation.
His swallowing function was further strengthened, enabling him to eat almost all types of food and enjoy various delicacies far better than after his first treatment.
Free from the torment, physical pain and mental distress brought on by this hereditary disease, Mr. Haitham Fuad Madanat and his family were filled with immense joy. They took a group photo with Dr. Wu’s team to commemorate this life-changing moment.
